A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY OF THE REGISTERS USED BY MIDWIVES

Language is an essential aspect of human life. It is used to interact and as a means of communication. The use of it commonly related to the society, where the speakers use. They have to speak differently in different situation, condition and place. They should fit and choose the correct language. This is become socio-linguistic phenomenon.
Communication involves at least two parts. They are speaker (writer) and listener (reader), but there is another element of communication, channel, e.g. telephone, letter and TV. In communication a particular person (a group of people) sometimes does not only use a standard language which is easy to be understood by a particular group. To make the communication fluent, people also need to know the register of particular field which they frequently use in their communication.
According to Holmes, register means the language of groups of people with common interests or job or the language used in situation associated with such groups.[1] In other opinion, registers is usually characterized by vocabulary differences, either by the use of particular words or by the use of language in particular sense.[2]
The discussion of the midwife illustrates the kind of linguistic features, which may distinguish different register. When the midwife take care of the mother in giving birth she helped by nurses. There are some demands to save mothers’ life, to work fast and accurately, to be patient and need more sacrifices. In conducting her job, midwife sometimes use special language to convey message more easily. The register is often found in spoken and written words. Sometimes, the register is different from the ordinary language. For example the word “positive”, commonly it means “in a good condition” like in sentence “I get a positive response”, but in midwifery, it means “pregnancy”. The example above is only one of the large varieties of register in midwifery. By that little explanation, it is known that there are some unique words used by midwife in their conduct.

    influence student learning

Education has a very strategic role in improving the quality of human resources and efforts to realize the ideals of the Indonesian nation in realizing common prosperity and intellectual life of the nation. Government to formulate the Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 20 of 2003 on National Education System explaining that education conducted in order to obtain the expected goals together, namely:"The national education serves to develop skills and form the character and civilization of the nation's dignity in the framework of the intellectual life of the nation, aimed at developing the potential of learners in order to become a man of faith and piety to God Almighty, noble, healthy, knowledgeable, capable, creative, independent, and become citizens of a democratic and responsible "(Article 3 of Law No 20/2003).Clearly education is an activity that is done intentionally so that pupils have a good attitude and personality, so the application should education was conducted in accordance with the National Education System under Law No. 20/2003. According to Law No 20/2003 on National Education System types of secondary education one of which is a vocational school (SMK). Explanation chapter 15 explains that "vocational education is secondary education, especially training that prepares participants to work in a particular field".The implementation of the 2004 curriculum implemented in order to improve the quality of education at the Vocational School (SMK) is an anticipatory efforts to prevent the gap between educational outcomes with the demanding needs of the community that will always evolve. The gap between the results of vocational education with the demands of society seen from the level of knowledge and mastery of skills of vocational graduates are still not commensurate with the demands of the workplace, as well as incompatibility not their area of expertise to the areas that needed work working world. These problems cause the increasing number of vocational school graduates who mengganggur and having trouble getting a job in accordance with kejuruannya diploma. In line with the 2004 edition of the vocational curriculum implementation in order to improve the quality of vocational education, a problem that should receive attention is the problem of student learning. Given the successful achievement of learning objectives are not solely determined curriculum factors but also factors of learning that will determine success or failure of educational activities. Thabrany (1993) suggested that learning is a key factor that determines success or failure of learning. This is particularly important given the vocational students as a skilled workforce prepared to enter the working world. In this case that goal is reached the mastery level of skills and areas of expertise and vocational school graduates must comply with the demanding needs of the working world. How to learn is a way how students carry out learning activities such as how they are preparing to learn, to learn, independent learning activities undertaken, their learning patterns, how to take exams. The quality of learning will determine the quality of learning outcomes obtained. A good way of learning will lead to successful learning, rather a bad way of learning will lead to less success or failure of learning [The Liang Gie (1984)].Learn how today's problems require attention because of the quality of student learning SMK quite apprehensive. From the observation and interview researchers to vocational students in particular classes of Malang PGRI 2 1 Department of Office Administration generally they lack the willingness to work hard for success / learning achievement. They generally only learn when facing exams, rarely do studies or learn a routine basis. Sukir (1995) promoted that are still quite a lot of students who have a less good way of learning such as learning with irregular time (do not have a timetable), learning while menontonTV or listening to radio, to learn by moving around, often late for school, and onlylearning at the time of the exam only. The bad way of learning is one of the factors causing low learning outcomes that lead to declining quality of education. Slameto (2002) suggested that the factor is a poor way to learn the causes are still many students who are actually quite clever but only achievement is no better than students who actually are less intelligent but capable of high achievement because it has a good way of learning.Another aspect that requires attention relates to the way students learn some vital lessons are learned the characteristics of eye training. Every eye training has special characteristics and properties that are different from other training the eye. According to Winkel (1996: 245) in terms of targeting training to learn the characteristics of the eye is divided into 1) Demand that the ability of knowledge, 2) the priority aspects of attitudes,3) Prioritize the skills aspect.

From the results of preliminary observations in SMK PGRI 2 Malang when the writer underwent Field Programme (WMO) data showed that some students have difficulty in receiving and studying the subject matter Performing Administrative Procedures.Difficulties faced by students in such materials may be caused by a lack of appropriate ways of learning. Where in the end these problems have an impact on student achievement low value of Deuteronomy Daily visits from students.

How to learn is not the only variable associated with learning achievement reached by students. There are still many other variables that affect, among others, the motivation and interest in learning, environmental, facilities, infrastructure, teachers, and others. So in this study only examined on student learning, in connection with the low learning achievement reached by students.Based on the background described above, the authors intend to conduct research on "Learning How To Influence Student Learning Achievement of Class 1 Major Administrative Procedure On Eye Training Administration Doing In SMK PGRI Lesson 2 Malang Year 2005/2006".B. Problem formulationBased on the background of the problems described above, the formulation of the problem in this study are:1. How patterns of student learning in grade 1 in the study eye Administrative Procedures in Conducting training SMK PGRI 2 Malang?2. How does student achievement in grade 1 in the eyes of Administrative Procedures in Conducting training SMK PGRI 2 Malang?3. Is there any influence of student learning on student achievement in grade 1 in the eyes of Administrative Procedures in Conducting training SMK PGRI 2 Malang?C. Research ObjectivesBased on the above problem formulation can be known the purpose of the study are:1. Knowing about patterns of student learning in grade 1 in studying the eyes of Administrative Procedures in Conducting training SMK Malang PGRI 2.2. Knowing the learning achievements of students in grade 1 in the eyes of Administrative Procedures in Conducting training SMK Malang PGRI 2.3. Knowing the influence of student learning on student achievement in grade 1 in the eyes of Administrative Procedures in Conducting training SMK Malang PGRI 2.D. Research Hypothesis

According PPKI (2000: 12) "hypothesis is a temporary answer to the problem of research that is theoretically diangggap most likely and highest level of truth". In connection with this research problem is the presence or absence of the influence of learning on student achievementclass 1 in the eyes of Conduct Administrative Procedures vocational training PGRI Lesson 2 Malang Year 2005/2006 proposed hypotheses in this study are:Ha: There is a significant effect of learning on student achievement in grade 1 in the eyes of Administrative Procedures in Conducting training SMK Malang PGRI 2 Lessons Year 2005 / 2006.Ho: There is no significant effect of learning on student achievement in grade 1 in the eyes of Administrative Procedures in Conducting training SMK Malang PGRI 2 Lessons Year 2005 / 2006.The next hypothesis to be tested statistically with the truth with the help of data collected.E. Benefits of ResearchThe results of this study are expected to be useful for:1. For the State University of Malang. In order to develop the science to study further the results of this study are expected to contribute knowledge of learning achievement that has to do with the way students have learned.2. For Vocational School PGRI 2By knowing how to study the effect on learning achievement is expected to be used as a material consideration in the framework of coaching and development of the school.3. For TeachersAs input in managing and improving teaching and learning strategies as well as the quality of instruction. By knowing the patterns of student learning then the teacher can customize the learning process is created.4. For StudentsBy knowing how to study the effect on learning achievement is expected to be used as a material consideration to adjust the way so that learning can be obtained satisfactory progress.5. For Authors

This study is expected to broaden knowledge by going directly to the field and provide learning experiences that foster skills and researching skills as well as more in-depth knowledge, especially in the areas studied.F. Research Assumptions

According PPKI (2000: 13) "Assuming the study is the presuppositions of a thing that made footing thinking and in doing research".In conducting this study researchers used a few basic assumptions as follows:1. The difference in level of intelligence is considered to have no significant effect.2. Each student learns in its own way.3. All students get the same facilities and opportunities to receive training lessons Performing Administrative Procedures eye.4. School has conducted an evaluation study properly so that values student learning outcomes in the eyes of Conduct Training Administrative Procedures contained in the books of the semester report cards is an odd reflection of actual student achievement.G. Scope and Limitations of Research1. Scope of ResearchThe scope includes ways of learning and learning achievement eye Conduct Training Administration Procedures. Population in this research that all students in grade 1 Department of Office Administration SMK PGRI 2 Malang. Translation of variables, sub-variables and indicators in Table 1.2. Limitations of ResearchIn studies in SMK PGRI 2 Malang researchers only limits on certain matters, namely:1. This study used a sample of only one class of students majoring in Office Administration at SMK PGRI 2 Malang school year 2005/2006.2. Student achievement in the eyes of Conduct Training Administrative Procedures used in this study is the odd semester of the 2005/2006 report cards.H. Operational DefinitionsTo avoid the perception and similarity concepts in interpreting the term is necessary to emphasize some of the terms as follows:1. The effect is a causal relationship caused by two variables (independent variables and the dependent variable).2. Student learning is a way or strategy in attempting to achieve student learning achievement expected. In this research the authors divide into 5 ways to learn the preparation of learning, how to follow the lessons, learning activities, learning patterns and how to take exams.3. Learning is a process that made someone attempt to obtain a new behavior changes as a whole, as a result of his own experience in interaction with the environment4. Learning achievement is the result of effort and learning activities are expressed in the form of symbols, numbers, letters, or sentences that can reflect the results already achieved by students in a given period. In this case the student achievement measured by the value of a grade report cards of students majoring in Office Administration odd semester of the school year 2005/2006 on the grounds of data readily available and the object to be examined still in school so you can mengisis questionnaire distributed.
    STUDY REFERENCESA. Relevant Research Findings

This study has similarities and differences with two previous studies that have been done by Muhyono (2001) in his research entitled "The relationship between interest and Learning Physics with the Physics Student Learning Achievement of Class 1 cawu 2 SMU N 6 Malang Lessons Year 2000/2001" and Kholifah (2003) in penelitiaannya entitled "The Effect of Ways and Habits of Learning Achievement Study subjects Accounting students at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Azhar Pasuruan". Equations are included on the same topic assessment of student learning on learning achievement, methods of data collection by questionnaire instruments and documentation, ex post facto research type, the data analysis techniques use descriptive correlational analysis. While the difference lies in the two previous studies examined not only how to learn but also interest and study habits, besides the study site, field of study, subjects and research results that are tailored to the title are discussed. For more details the similarities and differences in this study with two research can be seen in the table below
